Social Media (Editor)

Did you know… The Next Web has 5,000,000+ followers across all the major social networks? That’s why it’s hard from time to time to keep up with the number of comments and shares we get.

With our even more ambitious goals for the coming year, we’re looking for support in our community team to help take our social channels to the next level.

Do you love social media? Are you skilled at building an online audience? Do you know how use the latest tools and tricks to boost social performance? Do you live in the United States? If so, you should read on…

Background

We publish 30-40 articles a day on a range of tech related topics. Obviously we’d like to share them in variety of formats across many of our social channels. However, with more than 15 channels to manage, it can be hard to keep up with all of them and use them to their full potential. That’s why we’re looking for a social media editor who could support us in achieving our social media goals for this year: increasing our follower base and driving more traffic via social media platforms.

Social editorial and distribution

The ideal candidate for this role will work with the community team to keep our social channels topped up with awesome TNW content, which you will package in a way that is perfect for each network (editing images and social headlines, adding polls or quizzes, choosing the best formats etc).

You will also monitor all social channels using a variety of industry standard tools to spot the next pre-viral story TNW might want to look at and potentially cover before anyone else.

Social analytics

We (like other publishers) need to know how well our content is performing on social networks, as well as how these channels are performing in general.

You will work with the different TNW project teams (e.g. TNW Deals, TNW Academy, TNW Conference) to make sure their content is promoted the right way on our social channels, and to analyse your impact on our traffic goals with support from our in-house Web analyst.

Although this role is not a hardcore number-crunching post, we do need someone who has a basic grasp of key social metrics – how to find them, interpret them and react to the insights they give us. So the rest of the team can work on assisting you to work on analysis to see what works best.

Social engagement

A social media post without the need to engage with a community is no social media post at all! So, of course, you will also need to be skilled at tracking our channels for comments and replies to posts and engage in a timely and appropriate manner in the TNW-style.

Whether it’s spotting influencers sharing our content, unhappy readers telling us their gripes, or interesting and amusing responses we can have fun engaging with… it will be in your hands (along with the rest of the community team) to respond.

Special events coverage

Our editorial team will need you on hand when we cover live events (think Apple announcements) or breaking tech news. Imagine how many news updates happen during those Apple keynotes. You will need to be available for live-tweeting, responding to readers comments and speedily posting the latest news to our social channels.

Who will you be working with?

Matt Navarra is our community director and in charge of everything we do on social media. Next to that we’ll have two interns joining us to assist our marketing team as well. You’ll be in touch with Matt a lot to plan social activity, as well as to coordinate the posting of content to our social channels networks. Our editors love you as well for making sure their content is widely spread and read on social networks. Our marketing team is always on standby to make sure you’ll have the tools, analysis and data you’ll need to do your job at world class level.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing day-to-day content posting and daily content recirculation processes across social media, including live tweeting when necessary along with events
  • Tracking social media channels for potential news stories + pre-viral content across the Web for our editorial team to report on.

Who are you?

  • You have 2-4 years of experience working in social media for a big brand.
  • You’re all over social media and have tried every social network out there, and are an active user on most of them.
  • You have top-notch communication skills and experience writing for the Web.
  • You’re comfortable looking at core social stats, with our Web analyst, to evaluate TNW performance on social media channels.
  • You preferably have experience working with tools like CoSchedule, Tweetdeck, Parse.ly, Google Analytics, SocialFlow, Facebook Insights and others.
  • You preferably have experience in working with Adobe Photoshop or similar – useful for repackaging content (image editing).
  • You preferably have experience working with editorial teams at a media organisation.
  • Your English is perfect, preferably you’re native.
  • You live in the United States!
