The Next Web’s Events team is looking for a full-time Marketing Manager. The role has a large emphasis on crafting digital marketing campaigns and overseeing the work of our PPC specialist, Marketing Executive and Content Marketer.

TNW (The Next Web) is a fast-growing digital media company operating in news, workspaces, events and intelligence for the technology community. It is the parent company of TNW Events, which organises TNW Conference in Amsterdam (15.000 attendees) as well as smaller event formats all over Europe and North America.

We’re looking for an all-round creative marketer that has earned their first stripes in the battle for online attention. You’ve strategised creative campaigns, written copy that converts and your current marketing stack gives you the right to call yourself a growth hacker. Preferably you’ve done all that at a technology-driven company or a digital agency and you've come to the point that you're looking for the next step in your career: assuming responsibility for executing marketing campaigns for multiple annual events that are developed and executed in-house.

In our first draft for this job posting, we wrote that being Marketing Manager for TNW is like trading your '95 Subaru for the keys to a brand new Mercedes: you’ll be developing email campaigns responsible for 6-figure ticket sales, writing articles on a blog with 10 million monthly readers and creating unconventional marketing campaigns that range from roadside billboards to PR stunts with YouTube stars like Casey Neistat. In reality though, it's more like receiving the blueprints for an Ariel Atom: you may have to put some parts together yourself, it requires you to get your hands dirty and do a lot of maintenance, but when you're behind the wheel it's one of the most powerful (and rewarding!) experiences you could hope for.

You’ll be part of the 12-person events team and will be supported by a full-time PPC specialist, a Marketing Executive and a Content Marketer to execute campaigns that drive growth for TNW Conference and our other events. You'll work closely with, and under the supervision of, the Operations Director and Director of Events.


  • Devising an annual marketing strategy for TNW Conference that covers advertising, direct marketing and content marketing.

  • Setting editorial strategy and writing content for our newsletters to previous event attendees and converting those campaigns to ticket sales.

  • Conceptualising and executing marketing campaigns that tell a story and leverage visual mediums to drive authentic engagement.

  • Editing and publishing third-party content related to the conference.

  • Overseeing strategy for use of other in-house advertising opportunities made available to TNW Conference by (including our AMA platform, banner ads and other creative formats such as Canvas).

  • Assist the Operations Director in product management for the conference website, writing PRD’s for new improvements and evaluating the website's effectiveness.

  • Liaising with the campaign managers to execute marketing-related deliverables promised to partners of the conference.

  • Assisting the PR manager with media partnerships, for example by providing them with content and advertising assets relating to the conference.

  • Editing and publishing third-party content related to the conference.

  • Analysing your success and iterating upon your results.

  • Writing compelling web copy yourself, as well as ensuring consistent execution of the brand's tone of voice.


  • Educated to BA level or beyond. 

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in digital marketing. Preferably in an agency environment.

  • Demonstrable experience in growth hacking tactics. You have experience using Google Analytics, A/B testing software, FB & Google advertising and retargeting marketing to drive sustainable growth.

  • You are an excellent copywriter and your grammar is at the level of an English native speaker. You’re able to eloquently explain the benefits of attending our conferences, without breaking a sweat.

  • You understand that creativity can drive results: your work has involved conceptualising and executing marketing campaigns that tell a story and leverage visual mediums to drive authentic engagement.

  • Any experience with our current marketing stack is a plus. We work with: Zapier, MailChimp, Social Flow, Buffer, Intercom, Google Apps, Trello, Slack, Typeform, Google Analytics, CraftCMS and Wordpress. Ideas on how to enhance it is encouraged.

  • A good balance between a team player / self-starter. You need to work across departments to achieve a range of goals; at the same time, you need to be able to get things done even when there's no one around to help.

  • Comfortable working with remote management: our Operations Director (and direct supervisor) is based in the UK.

  • You live in Holland or plan to move there (and have a work visa).
